Hello
This website is a result of being a web programmer. I couldn't just develop websites for clients and not develop one for myself... This website is meant to be my portal to the world. I hope it does a good job of displaying my talent and interests. I try constantly to teach myself new things and I thought this would be a fun way to let others see the cool new things I learn.
Who Am I?
I am a 25-year-old female currently working towards a Master of Science in Computer Science... and eventually a Ph.D. When I started my first year of undergrad, one of my professors asked the class to attach the homework assignment in an email. I had been using email for the last two years of high school, so that I understood... but an attachment... what's that? No one in my family was ever technical. We got our first home computer a few years before, but the only thing I ever used it for was typing an assignment with Word and an occasional email.
Over the next three years of my Finance undergrad, I took a few classes that required me to expand my computer knowledge (or the lack thereof) slightly. I took an Excel and Access class (embarrassing that I actually took a class to learn Excel). After I graduated with my degree in Finance I got a job at a bank. Finance wasn't my big dream, actually the complete opposite... I didn't know what I wanted to study, so I followed in my brother's footsteps. I wasn't satisfied... I was constantly bored at my job and when I looked for other jobs, none of them sounded interesting to me either. My wonderful husband, boyfriend at the time, first got me thinking about going back to school. He was majoring in Computer Science and said maybe I should try the first programming class and see how I like it. My first class was a summer course programming in C++. I loved it!
The assignments were challenging, but fun. It was really neat that what I typed could actually produce a result. I made some funny programming fau-paus at first... I remember I was programming something to times two numbers together and I created a for-loop to go through and add the number to itself... I was really embarrassed when I realized there is a simple command to times numbers in C.
I've been taking computer science courses for three years now... I am only about 15 credits away from a second bachelor's, but I am skipping right over that and going straight for the Master's... I figure once I have my Master's it wouldn't matter anyway.
I enjoy a lot of other things besides computers... those include reading, hiking, biking, yoga, pilates, cooking, and boating. I also get sucked into a good television series occasionally, some of my favorites are Six Feet Under, Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, Alias, Dead Like Me, Buffy, Kyle XY, Sopranos, Firefly, and Rome.
